Obituary

Durward T. Clayton, 98, of Vandalia, died at 10:06 p.m. on Monday at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Dr. Roger Grimmett, and Revs. Louis Frick and Harry Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Moccasin Cemetery in Beecher City. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Clayton was born on Aug. 10, 1915, in Charleston, the son of Henry P. and Lilly M. Kramer Clayton. He married Joan Kesterson on Sept. 19, 1964.
He was employed by Beecher Foods-Meadow Gold Dairy for 46 years, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Clayton of Vandalia; daughters, Anna Phipps of Fenton, Mo., and Sharon and her husband Art Knueppe of Afton, Mo.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tom Clayton; and a brother, Glenn Clayton.
