Edgar Dean Runkel, 90, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017, in Midland.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Online condolences can be expressed at www.npwelch.com.
Mr. Runkel was born on June 21, 1926, in Shelbyville, the son of Carl and Mabel Runkel.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Navy as a ship's cook aboard the USS Tantalus from 1944-46. Later, he attended Sparks Business College and became an accountant for Exxon, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1984. Ed Enjoyed woodworking, attending exercise classes at First Presbyterian Church with many friends, and spending time with his granddaughters and great-grandsons.
He is survived by his sons, Jay M. Runkel and his wife Edna of Andrews, Texas, and Kevin D. Runkel of Midland, Texas; brother, Carl A. Runkel and his wife Edith of Vandalia; grandchildren, Amy and Justin Smith, and Kay Dee Runkel; great-grandchildren, Austin and Mason Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
