Obituary

Edith R. LeCrone, 101, of Altamont, passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont, with the Rev. Willie Deuel officiating. Burial was in Salem Methodist Church Cemetery in rural Altamont. Mrs. LeCrone was born on Thursday, Oct. 7, 1915, in Jackson Township, Effingham County, the daughter of Roy and Gertie (Parks) Grupe. She married Walter E. LeCrone on Jan. 27, 1934, at the Jasper County Courthouse; he preceded her in death in 1961.
She had attended Salem Methodist Church and was a member of the Effingham American Legion Auxiliary. She had been a homemaker and a nurse's aide for 20 years at several area nursing homes, including Marks Manor.
She is survived by a daughter, Juanita Cornwell of Altamont; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Don LeCrone; brother, Howard Grupe; and sister, Leona Ealy.
