Elwin P. Bernahl, 93, of Altamont, died at 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altamont, with the Rev. Clayton Vail officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Mr. Bernahl was born on April 25, 1919, in the Bethlehem Community in Effingham County near Altamont, the son of Otto and Martha Muchow Bernahl. He married Ester Leppin on Jan. 27, 1946.
He is survived by his wife; son, Robert Bernahl and his wife Cynthia Hulsizer of Philo; and daughters, Linda and her husband Charlie Dahlheimer of St. Louis, Mo., and Jeanne and her husband Dale Wolff of Altamont.
