Ethel Marie Jackson, 98, of Vandalia, passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jackson was born on May 5, 1915, in Assumption, the daughter of Edward J. and Minnie Mary Brule Cocagne. She married Floyd James Jackson on Feb. 25, 1936; he passed away on Feb. 10, 1976.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Council of Catholic women (CCW), Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary in Vandalia.
She is survived by sons, Jim Jackson and his wife Pat of Vandalia, Robert Jackson of Altamont, Mike Jackson and his wife Mary Ann of Franklin, Tenn., and Dan Jackson of San Bernadino, Calif.; daughters, Betty and her husband Wayne Hathaway of Vandalia, and Janet and her husband David Tendrick of Philo; daughter-in-law, Patty Jackson of Vandalia; 26 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Larry Jackson and Tom Jackson; daughter, Beverly and her husband Nelson Holbrook; four brothers; and five sisters.
