Evelyn M. Karr, 88, of Symerton, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at her home.
Per Evelyn's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington. Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.BaskervilleFuneral.com.
Mrs. Karr was born on June 28, 1926, in VanBurensburg, the daughter of Clyde Glenn and Alma May Brown Meyer. She married James O. Karr on Jan. 5, 1951, in Hillsboro; he preceded her in death on June 16, 2011.
She was raised and educated in Hillsboro. She worked as a waitress in the Officers Club at the Joliet Arsenal, and later owned and operated a catering business. She was vice president and bookkeeper for Karr Construction, in addition to co-operating Karr's Korner Hall from 1991-2002 with her husband, Jim. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star-Dorcas Chapter 5 and the Wilton Center Federated Church. She loved to dance, took pleasure in gardening and her flowers, and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and family gatherings. She was known for her pies, and was proud to always keep up with the family tree.
She is survived by sons, Michael Distefano and his wife Debbie of Missouri, and Greg Karr and his wife Cheryl of Wilmington; daughters, Carol and her husband Perfecto Mendietta of Wilmington, Paulette and her husband Frank Gates of Texas, and Trish Karr of Wilmington; grandchildren, Tony Distefano and his wife Heather, Marc Distefano, Gina and her husband Dustin Conger, Alisia and her husband Marty Mikulenka, Frank Gates and his wife Corina, and P.J. Mendietta; brother, Elvis Meyer of Texas; sister-in-law, Maxine Acup of Tennessee, Shirley Wright of New Mexico, Donna Meadows of Texas, Mildred and her husband Larry Scott of Colorado, and Linda and her husband Bill Hastings of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Keith Karr and his wife Diana of Bloomington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Elsie Meyer; husband; special mother-in-law, Effie Karr; sister-in-law, Maxine Meyer; and brothers-in-law, Bill Acup, Maurice Wright, Chuck Meadows, George and his wife Denise Karr, Hubert Karr and Herbert Karr.
