Frank Peter Durschmid, 88, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Cremation rites were accorded, and services will be held at a later date, with interment following in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Chicago. Memorials: Evans Public Library in Vandalia. Mr. Durschmid was born on June 6, 1929, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Eva (Baier) Durschmid.
Frank was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a retired supervisor for Crane Packing in Vandalia. He was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia and Knights of Columbus Council No. 4360. Frank was an avid book reader, and he enjoyed playing chess and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Maskill and her husband Howard of Riverside, and Josephine Mullane and her husband John of Naperville; sister-in-law, June Durschmid; nieces and nephews, Leslie Walters (David), Michael Durschmid, Mark Durschmid, Margaret Amlie (Eric), Daniel Maskill (Terry), Diane Maskill, Joseph Mullane, Theresa Cremering (Gerald), Patricia Ricchiuto (David) and Timothy Mullane (Karen).
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Durschmid; and a nephew, David Maskill.
