Gary Gene Rigdon, 72, of Vandalia, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown, with Wesley Bell officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: Mt. Carmel Cemetery or Four Mile Christian Church. Mr. Rigdon was born on Friday, Sept. 24, 1943, in Vandalia, the son of Clyde and Reatha (Gilmore) Rigdon. He married Lora Curry. He then married Virginia Williams on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1980.
He retired from Caterpillar, and in retirement, he worked for Cumberland Trail Growers in St. Elmo. He was a member of Four Mile Christian Church, where he was serving as an elder and had previously served as a deacon; was a past member of the Fayette Water Co. Board of Directors; and was treasurer of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Association.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Daron Rigdon and special friend Mel Dubiel of Brownstown, and Derek Rigdon and his wife Cheryl of Brownstown; stepson, Shawn Ritchey and his wife Billie Jo of Vandalia; stepdaughters, Stephanie and her husband Jeff Ireland of Shobonier, and Fawn Scribner of Vandalia; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
