Gary Gene Watson, 74, of Brownstown, passed away at 7:26 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Gieseking Funeral Home in Brownstown, with Don Thomas officiating. Burial was in Griffith Cemetery, with military rites accorded by Brownstown VFW Post 9770. Visitation was held two hours prior to services on Tuesday. Memorials: Brownstown VFW Post 9770, P.O. Mr. Watson was born on Saturday, March 25, 1944, in Vandalia, the son of Gene and Wilma (McCormick) Watson. He married Judith S. Potter on Aug. 29, 1965, at the St. Elmo Church of God.
He was a retired correctional counselor with the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and VFW Post 9770, and had been a member of the Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department. He served eight year in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of captain.
He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years; son, Blaine Watson and wife Debbie of Farmington, N.M; daughter, Heather Lynn Watson of Gillespie; and grandchildren, Aedan Watson, Audrey Watson and Kyler Stevenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
