George D. Suits, 96, of Hillsboro, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, with the Revs. Joy Caschetta and Tom Compton officiating. Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge services will be held at 9:30 a.m., and visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, with military rites accorded by Taylor Springs VFW Post 1306 and Irving American Legion Post 425. Memorials: Mt. Moriah Lodge or United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Suits was born on Sept. 10, 1917, in Hillsboro, the son of George W. and Anna V. McCullers Suits. He married Caroline Vollmar on April 21, 1940, in Hillsboro, with the Rev. James E. Reynolds officiating; she died in 2012.
He served in Army Co. C, 27 Battalion, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He started his career as an accountant for Anheuser-Busch, and he was a salesman for Moorman Feed Manufacturing in Carlinville for 15 years, 1945-59, retiring as a district manager in 1978.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Hillsboro; Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 51, A.F. & A.M., having served as Worshipful Master; Hillsboro Chapter No. 197 R.A.M., having served as Excellent High Priest and treasurer; Herman Chapter No. 95 of Order of Eastern Star of Hillsboro; Carrollton Council No. 48 of R.A.M. of Carlinville; St. Omar Commandery No. 30; K.T. of Litchfield; Macoupin-Montgomery counties Shrine Club; and American Legion. A 32-Degree Mason, he was a member of the Springfield consistory and the Ansar Shrine Temple, both of Springfield.
He is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Vollmar Thompson of Vandalia.
