George Eugene Richards, 83, of rural Vandalia, passed away at 3:52 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Overcup Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Wilberton Cemetery in rural Shobonier, with military honors accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia and VFW Post 9770 of Brownstown. Mr. Richards was born on March 12, 1933, in Vandalia, the son of George W. and Sophia N. (Abendroth) Richards. He married Betty Yarbrough on June 6, 1953; she preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 2008. He married Wilma Lofland Richards on March 20, 2011.
George and Wilma ran Richards Wood Products. George served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Haley Chapel in Bluff City.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Skotricia and her husband Jack Paschall of Floral City, Fla., and Janet and her husband Brandon Christianson of Brandon, Fla.; stepchildren, Susie Collier, Lora Richards, Mike Richards and Jackie Richards; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Richards and his wife Diane, Jack Richards and his wife Judy, and Phillip Richards and his wife Phyllis; and sisters, Ruth and her husband Tom Rigdon, Joyce and her husband Al Cahoon, and Donna and her husband Chuck Boggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a son, Kenny Richards; sisters, Nellie Elmore and Norma Richards; and brothers, Harold Richards Sr. and John Richards.
