Harry John Lewis, 91, of Vandalia, passed away at 2:35 p.m. on Monday at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church. Memorials: Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Fayette County Hospital LTC Activity Fund. Mr. Lewis was born on April 10, 1926, in Chicago, the son of John Lewis and Olga (Richards) Nussman. He married Lela Ward on Nov. 23, 1944, in Nokomis.
Harry was a truck driver for Vandalia Transit and A&R Trucking, and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Harry Lewis Jr. of Acton, Maine, and Lloyd Lewis and his wife Deb of Greenville; daughter, Mary and her husband James Cramer of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, James Lewis and his wife Charlotte, Lisa and her husband David Allis, Jason Lewis and his wife Sheila, John Cramer, Dennis Cramer and his wife Sherri, Tim Lewis and his wife Bess, Mark Lewis and his wife Rachel, and Sarah and her husband Neil Vanderkwaak; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
