Helen Pauline Mitchell, 99, of Savoy, formerly of Vandalia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at 8:08 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Champaign, 1602 S. Prospect Ave., Savoy, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Gauger and the Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Entombment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum in Champaign. Memorials: First Baptist Church of Champaign or donor's choice. Morgan Funeral Home in Savoy was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Vandalia, the daughter of Fred and Anna Woolsey. She married Charles M. Mitchell on Nov. 18, 1950, at First Baptist Church in Vandalia; he passed away on Jan. 31, 1992.
After graduating from Vandalia High School, she attended Paul Brown Business College in St. Louis and attended the University of Illinois.
She was employed as an accountant at the Illinois State Farm in Vandalia, and retired from the State Geological Survey Financial office in Urbana in 1982 after having been employed there for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy, and a member of Alliance Chapter Daughters of American Revolution, CU Welcome Club, The Illinois Club, The Guild, University Guild, University Club, St. Matthews and Elks Bridge, and bridge with longtime friends.
Her pleasure in life was her family. She was room mother for both children, co-leader in Cub Scouts and assistant leader in Brownies.
She will be remembered and missed by her precious family and friends. Her greatest love was her Jesus and her family.
She is survived by her children, Max Mitchell and his Betsy, and Charlene and her husband Mike Carlier; grandchildren, Erin and her husband Tom, and Andrew Mitchell; great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Juliana Favot; brother, Herbert Woolsey and his wife Mary of Vandalia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Harold, Herman, Raymond, Gerald and infant brother; sister, Arline Varady; and nephews, Dennis Woolsey and Ron Highsmith.
