Herman L. "Bud" Wiss, 91, of Vandalia, passed away at 3:35 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Vera, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Visitation was to be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour before services on Thrusday, both at the church. Memorials: Holy Cross Radio Ministry, or donor's choice. Mr. Wiss was born on Dec. 5, 1925, in Vandalia, the son of John and Minnie (Schukar) Wiss. He married Edna Louise Mindrup on June 16, 1982.
Bud served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He was the owner and operator of Wareco Gas Station, formerly Liberty Gas, in Vandalia, and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Nancy and her husband Ken Gebke of Vandalia, and Becky and her husband Paul Justad of Graham, N.C.; stepsons, Randall Siebert and his wife Marie of Vandalia, and Roger Siebert and his wife Denise of McKinney, Texas; stepdaughter, Lori Hanley and her husband Mike of Edwardsville; sister, Ruth Sperlin of Vandalia; grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Brian Westendorf, Ted Thompson and his wife Angie, A.J. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Todd Thompson; and a granddaughter, Laura Wiss.
