James Edward "Jim" O'Brien, 71, of Lincoln, formerly of Vandalia, passed away at 5:29 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Crown Point Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Burial will be in Sebastian Cemetery in Roseland, Fla.
Mr. O'Brien was born on Jan. 13, 1944, in O'Fallon, the son of William J. and Margie R. (Walker) O'Brien.
Jim was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a very young age, but it didn't keep him from enjoying life. He worked at FAYCO for a short time and participated in Special Olympics. He idolized Elvis Presley, and he loved to dress up as Elvis and sing and perform at his group home parties.
He is survived by his sisters, Joyce and her husband Jack Ritchey of Vandalia, and Kelly and her husband Fred Wessendorf of Palm Bay, Fla.; sister-in-law, Betty O'Brien of Summerfield, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John O'Brien; and two nephews
