Jarielle Harner Winkleman, 65, of Springfield, formerly of Brownstown, went to Heaven on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at West Side Christian Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Eddie Lowen officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements. Jarielle was born on June 7, 1952, in Vandalia, the daughter of Joseph P. and Jennie Alice Harner.
She graduated from Brownstown High School in 1970. She received her bachelor's degree from Greenville College, where she was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame, and her master's degree from Eastern Illinois University.
She was a teacher and coach for 14 years at Stewardson-Strasburg High School, where she was the Illinois Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1986. For the next 19 years, she taught science at Washington Middle School in Springfield, retiring in 2007.
She was a member of West Side Christian Church, Fayette County Retired Teachers and Bergen Q-tees Golf League.
She is survived by her husband, Gary; son, Jay Winkleman; mother, Jennie Alice Harner (age 100); brother, Jvee (Theresa) Harner; sisters, Jenetia (Dave) Ruble, Javonda (Gary) Barnes, Jorita (Gary) Cook and JoAlice (Steve) Dobbs.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Joseph P. Harner II.
