Jimmy E. Long, 74, of Somonauk, formerly of Vandalia, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, with the Rev. Derek Johnsen officiating. Burial will be in Little Indian Creek Cemetery in rural Leland. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: Polycystic Kidney Disease. Online condolences can be expressed at www.eighnerfuneralhomes.com.
Mr. Long was born on Nov. 3, 1944, in Vandalia, the son of Edward and Maggie (Bedford) Long. He married Carol A. Dubiel on July 14, 1965, in Ramsey.
Jimmy was a member of Harvest Chapel in Sandwich and UAW Local No. 145 of Aurora. He was employed at Caterpillar in Aurora for 30 years, retiring on April 1, 1999. He designed and built his own home. He enjoyed woodworking and N scale train collecting. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; children, Theresa (Dan) Gordon of Sandwich, and Richard (Daryl) Long of Somonauk; grandchildren, Daniel (Tayler), Sarah (Jakob), Timothy, Joshua, Ian, Christopher, Jennifer, Caitlyn (Alex), Jamie (Lance) and Alexander; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and James, due in March; sisters, Ollie Auton and Marie Davis, both of Ramsey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
