Joan Ruth Fackler, 77, of Vandalia, departed this life peacefully the morning of March 8, 2016, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
A service of remembrance was held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at St. Thomas Church in Salem. She was buried at St. Augustine's House in Oxford, Mich., on Monday, March 14. Gifts in Joan's memory may go to the Altamont Lutheran Care Center, St. Augustine's House, Missouri Botanical Garden, , or wherever you find need. Joan was born on Aug. 18, 1938, in New Orleans, La., to Carl and Helen (Henneberg) Wegener.
She met her first husband, Jim, in St. Louis, while she attended nursing school and he attended seminary. They were married in 1960 and parted by death after sharing their lives more than 55 years. Together, she and Father Jim raised many sons and touched the lives of many.
She leaves to live in thanks, hope and love her husband, Jim; brother, Paul; sister, Carol and brother-in-law Phil; sons and daughters, Tim and Nathalie, Pete, Paul and Barbara, David and Conrad, Nathanael and Kendrea, Andy and Lisa, Tom and Margaret, and Phil and Callie; many grandchildren; and numerous loving and beloved family, friends and neighbors with whom she shared her life and love.
Joan was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Ellen; her oldest son, Victor; her parents; her aunt, "Nan" (Ruth); and so many loving and beloved family and friends.
