John Edward Truitt, 75, of Shobonier, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia and VFW Post 9770 of Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Mr. Truitt was born on Dec. 30, 1939, in Edwardsville, the son of Harry and Gladys (Daech) Truitt. He married Marilyn Meseke on June 17, 1962, in Vandalia.
John was a Navy veteran, serving as an electronic technician. After his service, he finished schooling at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and worked as an accountant for Caterpillar before retiring. John loved the Lord, his family, his country and fishing.
He is survived by his wife; sons, John Truitt Jr. and his wife Gina of Shobonier, Michael Truitt and his wife Brandy of St. Elmo, and Jason Truitt of Shreveport, La.; sister, Mary Truitt of Vandalia; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Truitt.
