John T. Willis, 71, of Vandalia, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Unity Baptist Church, formerly First Baptist Church, in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in rural Fillmore. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia and one hour before services on Tuesday at the church. Mr. Willis was born on Sept. 20, 1943, in Bear Grove Township, Fayette County, the son of Roy Virgil and Bessie May Bolyard Willis. He married Lualice "Lu" Carter on Nov. 16, 1963, in Vandalia.
He was a retired grader assembly lineman at Caterpillar Inc. in Decatur and a custodian for Unity Baptist Church in Vandalia. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and the Men's Bowling League, both of Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Cindy and her husband Mike Hicks of Ramsey, and Lana and her husband John Lamkin of Waxhaw, N.C.; brother, Don Willis of Vandalia; sisters, Doris Lamkey of Riverton and Betty Willis of Springfield; grandchildren, Keith Cook, Megan Steele, Danielle Steele, Mackenzie Sims, Lauren Sims, Tony Hicks and his wife Lee, Angie and her husband Mark Eller, Ali and her husband Dillon Glenn, and Jessica and her husband Justin Moore; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Emma, Gracie, Evertt and Inara.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Jim Willis; and sister, Francis Wakefield.
