John Vernon Barnes, 87, of Patoka, died at 12:58 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Patoka Christian Church in Patoka, with Brother John Klockenga officiating. Burial will be with military rites by Patoka American Legion Post 543 and Illinois Army National Military Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Barnes was born on March 9, 1925, in Fayette County, near Vernon, the son of John and Tressie Forehand Barnes. He married Dorothy May Frailey on Dec. 18, 1948, in Patoka.
He is survived by his wife; and children, Gary Barnes and his wife Javonda of St. Louis, Mo., Cheryl Cassady of Greenville, and Donald Barnes of Oldsmar, Fla.
