John W. Hunsley, 74, of Vandalia, passed away at 2:14 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Aperion Care in St. Elmo.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg, with the Rev. Jeff Bealmear officiating. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia. Memorials: St. Elmo Aperion Care Center Special Care Unit. Mr. Hunsley was born on Aug. 25, 1941, in Springfield, the son of Park and Ethelyn (Boaden) Hunsley. He married Dietgard Bloedorn on June 1, 1983, in Vandalia.
John was a former librarian for the Vandalia Community Unit School District, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Barbara Mossman and her fiancée Bob Irving, and Carol Nolet, both of Springfield; stepsons, Arpad Walker and his wife Amy Griffin of Eugene, Ore., and H. Istvan Walker and his wife Rose of Chicago; brothers, Don Hunsley and his wife Jan of Everett, Wash., and Lyle Hunsley and his wife Barbara of Waverly; and grandchildren, Katrina Mossman, Heather Clark, Brandon Clark, Bruce Walker and Harry Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jay Hunsley.
