Joni K. Springman, 64, of St. Elmo, passed away at 12:03 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. Elmo Christian Church, with the Revs. Tom Fedrigon, Dan Laack and Kurt Simon officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in rural St. Elmo. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Memorials: Lighthouse Pregnancy Center in Vandalia, St. Elmo Summer Lunch Program or Fayette County Cancer Fund. Gieseking Funeral Home in Brownstown was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Springman was born on Thursday, Nov. 26, 1953, in St. Elmo, the daughter of James and Helen (Fears) Koonce. She married Michael Springman on July 30, 1993, in Vandalia.
She attended St. Elmo Christian Church. She was an administrative assistant at Lighthouse Pregnancy Center in Vandalia, and had been a substance abuse counselor at Vandalia Correctional Center, a sportswriter for The Leader-Union in Vandalia and secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia.
She is survived by her husband; mother; brother, Denny (Sharon) Koonce of Benton, Mo.; sister, Kari Beasley of St. Elmo; nieces and nephews, Andy (Halli) Koonce, Ashlyn Beasley, Britani Beasley, Katie Koonce and Connor Beasley; and special family friends, Dylan and Morgan Myers.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
