Karen Jean Stanhaus, 65, of Valdosta, Ga., formerly of Vandalia, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.
As per her wishes, her remains are being cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Highland. Music Funeral Services/Azalea Crematory of Valdosta was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.musicfuneralservices.com.
Mrs. Stanhaus was born on June 20, 1951, in Vandalia, the daughter of Lloyd Silas Ward and Bettie Jean Stone.
She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer and bowler. Karen and her husband, Dale, were the proprietors of Hi Top Bowl in Highland for 15 years.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years; daughter, Betsey Yoder-Sugg of Greenville; daughter, Katey and her husband Jonathon Brown of Valdosta, Ga.; sisters, Patricia Sandow of Lake Quivira, Kan., and Jane and her husband Chip Berger of Vandalia; brother-in-law, Bernard and Barb Stanhaus of New Baden; grandchildren, Christian Jean, Alexandria, Jude, Carson and Daniel; nephews, Mark Utlaut, David and Amy Rubin, Brandy and John Kessel, Tess Stanhaus, and Brian and Jane Stanhaus; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Dr. Theodore Sandow; and a niece, Kristen Utlaut.
