Kenneth Eugene "Kenny" Kessler, 73, of Vandalia, passed away on Jan. 3, 2018, at his home.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Fr. Zach Edgar officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice or Fayette County Cancer Fund. Mr. Kessler was born at home in Richland County on May 27, 1944, the son of Raymond and Thresa (Wagner) Kessler. He married Linda Brooks on Oct. 1, 1966.
He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as an engineer technician. He was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, and for more than 30 years was a member of the Fayette County Democratic Party. Kenny loved fishing with his grandsons and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Sheila Kessler and her husband Stephen O'Sullivan of Arlington Heights, and Shelli and her husband Drew Meyers of Vandalia; grandsons, Garrett James Meyers and Corbin Eugene Thomas Meyers, both of Vandalia; and sisters, Rose Kessler and Judy Kessler, both of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Kessler Jr.
