Lester Ernest "Buck" Arnold, 85, of Ramsey, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown, with military rites accorded graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95, VFW Post 3862, Fayette County Health Department Home Health or Fayette County Hospital, all in Vandalia, or donor's choice. Mr. Arnold was born on Jan. 4, 1929, in Seminary Township, Fayette County, the son of Roland and Cleo Kistler Arnold. He married Betty Bell Austin on Aug. 6, 1950, in Piggott, Ark.
He worked at Arthur Young Inc. as a mechanic for 30 years, and was the owner/operator of Arnold's Service and Repair in Vandalia from 1982-94 before retiring. He served in the Army; was a member of Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 for more than 60 years, VFW Post 3862 and Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447; and was affiliated with the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his wife; son, Toby Arnold and his wife Rae of Ramsey; granddaughters, Elizabeth and her husband Jasper Washburn, and Ashley and her husband Devan Matthews; great-grandson, Jaxson Washburn; four brothers and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
