Leta Marie Smith, 63, of Rockford, formerly of Vandalia, died at 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Beth Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held in Rockford at a later date. Mrs. Smith was born on March 23, 1949, the daughter of Lorin "Doc" and Marybell Stombaugh Telford.
She was a retired teacher for the deaf and special needs children. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Rockford.
She is survived by sisters, Michelle Telford of Clinton, and Patricia Jean (Telford) Hoffman of Columbus, Ohio; nephew, M. Eli Hoffman and his wife Heather of Worthington, Ohio; great-nephew and great-nieces, Spencer Cade Hoffman, Kennedy Renee Hoffman and Abigail Hoffman; and godson, Jacob Walker of Litchfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorna Jane Telford.
