Obituary

Linda M. Meador, 90, of Vandalia, died at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Lakeshore Villages Nursing Home in Waco, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating and military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. There is no visitation. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Meador was born on Feb. 12, 1923, in Shobonier, the daughter of Herman John and Minnie Marie Suckow Meyer.
She retired from Crane Packing in Vandalia after 27 years. She served in the Navy during World War II as one of the first 50 Navy Waves, from April 19, 1943, to Nov. 3, 1945, and she served in Norfolk, Va., as a first class parachute rigger. She was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia.
She is survived by a son, Chris Meador and his wife Sherry of Brownstown; daughters, Sandra and her husband Kenneth Barker of Waco, Texas, Vickie and her husband John Haug of Granite City, and Tammy and her husband Ernie Chappel of Vandalia; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rudy Meyer, Walter Meyer and Wilbert Meyer; and sisters, Lydia Edwards, Edna Jett, Nora Smith and Martha Sears.
