Lucille Doolen, 97, of Vandalia, died on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Fayette County Hospital SCU in Vandalia.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with Dr. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Doolen was born on May 15, 1915, in Shobonier, in the Stringtown area, the daughter of John and Pearl Emma Zimmerman Frisby. She married Wilbur Laymon Doolen on Dec. 20, 1934, in Vincennes, Ind.; he died on July 28, 1992.
She was a homemaker, a beloved babysitter, and a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Vandalia.
She is survived by a son, Gary Doolen of Vandalia; their special friend, Darlene Greenwood of Springfield; sister-in-law, Edna May Frisby; nieces, Sandra Murphy McCool, Nancy Frisby Crites, Becky Frisby Zimmerman and Barb Frisby Ruble; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Harold ""Bus"" Frisby; sister, Nellie Murphy; nephews, Larry Murphy and Dallas Frisby; and niece, Sharon Murphy Carr.
