SFC Luke E. Hortenstine, 35, of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn., formerly of Ramsey, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Ramsey Christian Church in Ramsey, with the Rev. Terry Sapp officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Hortenstine Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the church. Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey was in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be expressed at www.millerfh.net.
SFC Hortenstine was born on Aug. 11, 1980 in Vandalia, the son of Marc Bradley and Diane Nell (Thull) Hortenstine. He married Tina Fry on Aug. 5, 2000, in Ramsey.
He was currently serving in the Warrior Transition Battalion at Ft. Campbell, Ky., as an active duty soldier, and was an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran in the U.S. Army. Luke was a devoted Christian who served as youth leader at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cumberland Furnace, and due to his great love for hunting and fishing, he was currently an HOOAH volunteer.
He is survived by his devoted wife; son, Nicholas Hortenstine; daughters, Ashley Boucher and Brooklyn Hortenstine; parents, of Ramsey; grandmother, Carolyn Hortenstine of Ramsey; brothers, Nathan Hortenstine and his wife Jancey, and Ben Hortenstine and his wife Dana, both of Ramsey; several aunts and uncles; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Hortenstine; and grandparents, John and Millie Thull, and Dan Hortenstine.
