LuVerne ""Biff"" Engel, 92, of Kinmundy, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with the Rev. William Emrick officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter and one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Memorials: St. Peter's Lutheran Church or donor's choice. Mr. Engel was born on Aug. 23, 1923, in Kinmundy, the son of August and Lydia (Bergmann) Engel. He married Loreine Scheer on Jan. 28, 1947; she preceded him in death on July 26, 2007.
He graduated in 1942 from LaGrove High School in Farina. He was a farmer in the Farina-Kinmundy area, a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter and was a 4-H leader for several years.
He is survived by sons, Terry Engel of Carterville, and Brady Engel and his wife Terri of Kinmundy; daughters, Lynette and her husband David Shoup of Springfield, and Kimberly and her husband Mark Wexler of Bloomington; brothers, Carol ""Bud"" Engel and his wife Marie of Doswell, Va., Louis Engel and his wife Laura of Farina, Wendell Engel and his wife Kathy of Farina, Duane Engel and his wife Donna of Salem, and Donald Engel and his wife Theresa of Kinmundy; sisters, Delores Dorr of New Castle, Ind., Mary and her husband James Palmer of Charleston, Jean and her husband Gilbert Kroening of Carbondale, and Ilene and her husband Donald Post of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Ina Kay Engel of Kinmundy; other in-laws, Sue Engel of Kinmundy, Zetta Engel of Springfield, Alecia Engel of Salem, and Carroll Scheer and his wife Jean of Carmel, Ind. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kelly Engel and his wife Traci; Jackota, Casey, Trey, Michaela, and Christopher Shoup and his wife Alissa; and Alex and Olivia Wexler. Survivors also include great-grandchildren, Cody, Carter, Kyle and Tamryn Engel, and Atheena, Zayla Rose and Oslynn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Gaylan Engel; sisters, Norma Young and Menerva Engel; brothers, Melvin, Charles, Calvin and Larry Engel; sister-in-law, Delores VonBehren; and brothers-in-law, Fred Young and Gilbert VonBehren.
