Mabel Marie Winters, 99, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:01 a.m. on Sunday, march 19, 2017, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care. Mrs. Winters was born on Nov. 17, 1917, in Vandalia, the daughter of George W. and Goldie (Dunham) Hodson. She married Sherman L. Winters on Jan. 11, 1947; he passed away on Nov. 20, 2002.
Mabel was previously employed at Johnson, Stephens & Shinkle Shoe Factory, Princess Peggy Dress Factory and P.N. Hirsch Factory, all in Vandalia.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. (Winters) Rasmussen of Clearwater, Fla.; son, Mikel L. Winters and his wife Jane of Dieterich; grandchildren, Douglas Winters and his wife Chris, Jennifer and her husband Dan Semanisin, and Mikayla Winters; stepgrandchildren, Jenny and her husband Kevin Lange, Sarah and her husband Scott Schaefer, Ashley and her husband Pat Kreke, and Cliff Westendorf; great-grandchildren, Hayden Winters and his wife Abby, Amelia and her husband Zach Shipman, and Audrey Winters; great-stepgrandchildren, Grace Lange, Noah Lange, Owen Kreke, Harrison Kreke and Caroline Kreke; and former daughter-in-law, Susan Winters of Altamont.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Glen, Orville, Harry, Paul, Early and Roy Hodson; sisters, Hazel Schmitt and Mildred Lott; and great-stepgrandson, David Schaefer.
