Margaret E. Austin, 85, of Vandalia, passed away at 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at her home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Haley Chapel United Methodist Church in Bluff City, with the Rev. Louis Frick officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Memorials: Haley Chapel United Methodist Church, Haley Chapel Cemetery or Fayette County Cancer Fund. Mrs. Austin was born on Feb. 28, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Ray and Marjorie (Washburn) Stine. She married Carl Austin on July 29, 1950, in Jeffersonville, Ind.; he preceded her in death in 2000.
Margaret worked mostly in sales and retail throughout the years. Her real passion was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved working in her yard and helping at church.
She is survived by her daughter, Carla and her husband Tom Diveley of Vandalia; grandson, Darren Matzker and special friend Shannon of St. Louis, and Todd Matzker of Brownstown; and great-grandchildren, Zakkary Matzker, son of Ryan Matzker; and Nora Matzker, daughter of Todd Matzker.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Chris Austin, in 1975; and grandson, Ryan Matzker, in 2001.
