Marie R. Hodson, 92, of Vandalia, passed away at 11:09 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, at her family home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour before services on Tuesday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice. Mrs. Hodson was born on Dec. 30, 1924, in Vandalia, the daughter of Levi and Rhoda (Hunter) Lape. She married Harry E. Hodson on July 31, 1948, in Vandalia; he preceded her in death.
In her early years, Mrs. Hodson ironed in home for many families, and she was later employed by Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory and Crane Packing, both in Vandalia. She was a member of the Vandalia Second Baptist Church, Women of the Moose and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandy and her husband Paul Schommer of Mateca, Calif., Debbie and her husband Richard Warner of Vandalia, Sherri Hodson of Vandalia and Cindy Hodson of Vandalia; son, Harry "Skip" Hodson and his wife Dee of Vandalia; brother, Wally Lape of St. Elmo; grandchildren, Alan Woolsey, Heather Raleigh and Cassie Warner; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nine great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Sue Dugan and Lou Berry; brothers, Millard, Paul, Charles, Ed and Steve Lape; and a grandson, "Little" Jake Thacker.
