Martin G. Behrends, 89, of Brownstown, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, in Vandalia.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Don Thomas officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. last Thursday and one hour before services on Friday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Brownstown United Methodist Church. Mr. Behrends was born on Oct. 18, 1927, in rural Brownstown, the son of John G. and Mary A. (Hobbs) Behrends. He married Norma J. Merryman on Nov. 7, 1948, in Vandalia; she passed away on Aug. 18, 2010.
Martin was formerly employed at Bluff Equipment, and later became the owner and operator of Behrends Sales and Service in Vandalia. He was a member of Brownstown United Methodist Church.
He is survived by sons, Gary Behrends and his wife Carole of Arlington Heights, and Mike Behrends and his wife Darla of Oakville, Mo.; daughter, Carol Ann Behrends of Brownstown; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Kasten of Brownstown; and sisters-in-law, Sally and Shirley Behrends, both of Brownstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, John and Bill Behrends.
