Melvin Eugene Kramer, 79, of Farina, passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at HSHS St. John's Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at noon on Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Kinmundy, with the Rev. Fr. Carol LoPresti officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy. A rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m., with visitation to follow from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Mr. Kramer was born on Feb. 12, 1939, in LaClede Township, Ill., the son of Raymond and Florence (Schatz) Kramer. He married Marilyn Phillis Sigrist on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (formerly known as St. Philomena Catholic Church) in Kinmundy; she preceded him in death.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, which he helped to build as a teenager. He was a member of the American Angus Association, Illinois Angus Association, Arctic Circle Club and several other livestock organizations, and was an active member of the Soil and Water Conservation District. He was a lifelong farmer, and he always enjoyed showing livestock, especially angus cattle; camping, hunting and fishing; and traveling; and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.
He is survived by his sons, Marvin Kramer (wife Vickey) of Farina, Keith Kramer (wife Denise) of Farina and Bruce Kramer (wife Kay) of Missoula, Mont.; daughters, Kathleen Harms (husband Dave) of West Chicago, Judy Hinshaw (husband Dan) of Secor and Alicia Miller (husband Marcus) of Forrest; brother, Wayne Kramer (wife Rita) of Farina; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Clarence Kramer and Kenneth Kramer.
