Mary Hester Naber, 91, of St. Peter, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier, with the Revs. David Hoehler and Doug Meyer officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until time of services on Sunday at the church. Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mrs. Naber was born on July 20, 1922, in Brownstown, the daughter of William Jasper and Sarah Alice (Hillock) Smith. She married Walter E. Naber on Dec. 23, 1958, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church; he preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2001.
She worked at Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory for 15 years, at Fayette County Jail as a cook for four years and on the family farm for 45 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier. She loved gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her brother, Clarence Smith and his wife Lois of Brownstown; five nieces; and eight nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Harold Koester and Dale Smith; one nephew; and one niece.
