Matthew C. "Matt" Austin, 47, of Brownstown, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, in St. Elmo.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at First Church of God in Vandalia, with the Revs. Dave Keefer and Jim Giffin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday, both at the church. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Austin was born on Dec. 15, 1966, in Effingham, the son of Clyde and Carol E. Richardson Austin. He married Lisa M. Lockart on Nov. 28, 1992, in Vandalia.
He was a farmer and co-owner/operator of Richardson Brothers Greenhouses Inc. in St. Elmo; was a member of First Church of God in St. Elmo and the NRA; and was an avid aviator.
He is survived by his parents, of Brownstown; wife; son, Elijah Austin of Brownstown; daughter, Danielle Austin of Brownstown; brothers, Aaron Austin and his wife Cassandra, and Bradley Austin and his wife Stacey, both of Brownstown; and sisters, Corinna and her husband Dave Hill, and Michelle and her husband Kevin Maxey, both of Brownstown.
