Obituary

Maxine Leander, 85, of Vandalia, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Aperion Care and Rehab in St. Elmo.
Cremation rites were accorded and graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Green Hill Cemetery in VanBurensburg, with the Rev. Ernie Flowers officiating. Friends and family may gather at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen at 1:30 p.m. to procede to the cemetery. There is no visitation. Mrs. Leander was born on Jan. 28, 1930, in Fillmore, the daughter of Roy and Ruth Swetland. She married John W. Leander on Dec. 30, 1950, in Decatur; he preceded her in death on May 13, 2006.
She was a homemaker and had worked at The Leader-Union in Vandalia. She graduated from Fillmore High School with the Class of 1948.
She is survived by a son, Tom Leander and his wife Karin of Vandalia; daughter, Amie Leander and Pete Raia of Bloomington; grandchildren, Kelsey and Kendall Leander; brother, John Swetland of Coffeen; sister, Margaret Milleville of Peoria; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Charles Swetland.
