Morris C. Kern, 81, of Vandalia, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Springfield.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with Dr. Ben Foxworth, the Rev. Ernie Flowers and the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday, both at the church. Mr. Kern was born on April 3, 1934, in Pittsburg, the son of William Lewis "Bill" and Lillian Mae (Eyman) Kern. He married B. Lenora "Lee" Stoneburner on Oct. 30, 1955, in Vandalia.
He was a retired printer for the Greenville Advocate and Wall Street Journal, and owner/operator of Kern's Wonderful Woods in Raymond. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a former deacon and Sunday school teacher at Woburn Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; son, Steve Kern and his wife Teri of Iuka; daughter, Cherlylee and her husband Sam Bridges of Rochester; brother, Merle Kern and his wife Phyllis of Vandalia; grandchildren, Josh and Trish, Jason and Kris, Becky and Ross, Branson and Deanna, and Stephanie; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Charles; granddaughter, Emylee; and grandson, Benjamin.
