Myrtle E. Kern, 95, of Vandalia, formerly of rural Mulberry Grove, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, in Vandalia.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Bruce Sasse officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: Columbus Baptist Church Building Fund. Online condolences can be expressed at www.millerfh.net.
Mrs. Kern was born on March 17, 1922, in Fayette County, the daughter of Ernest Daniel and Ruth Mae (Hopkins) Eyman. She married Lloyd Everett Kern on April 2, 1938, in Pittsburg; he passed away on May 8, 1978.
Myrtle sold Avon and Stanley products from her home after Lloyd's passing. She also worked at Weise's and DeMoulins, both in Greenville, and retired from Rural King in Vandalia in 1989. She was a member of Pittsburg Free Methodist Church and later attended Columbus Baptist Church in Keyesport.
She is survived by sons, Melvin Kern and Janet of Vandalia, James Kern and Melinda of Mulberry Grove, and Charles Kern and Glenda of Keyesport; daughters, Shirley Barenfanger of Vandalia, Donna Bowen and Larry of Mulberry Grove, and Barbara Jackson of Panama, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Melba Kay; five brothers; and 3 sisters.
