Norma Lou Horton, 88, of Edwardsdville, formerly of Greenville, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at her home.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon, with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday. Memorials: Celtic Hospice. Online condolences may be expressed at
Mrs. Horton was born on Dec. 20, 1927, in Greenville, the daughter of Bert and Flossie (Hobler) Sexton. She married Velmar Herbert Horton in East St. Louis in 1954; he preceded her in death in 1989.
Norma retired from the Triad School District in 2014 after 15 years of dedicated service as the driver of bus No. 15. She was a founding member and the eldest member of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, where she was very dedicated and active throughout the years. She had a special love for Cardinal birds and was also a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She enjoyed her days of gardening, her love for flowers and listening to music. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Mark Horton and Al Greenough of Edwardsville, and Bill and Joy Horton of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Aaron, Angie and Adam Horton and Alton Greenough; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Dakota, Ali and Kaleb Greenough and Cheyenne and Andrew Brase and Joseph Schieffer; sister-in-law, Viola Sexton of Troy; nieces and nephews, Ketra Howard, Mike Sexton, Linda Sexton, Donna Sexton, Leanne MacRae and Virgil Horton; other extended family; and many dear friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Amos, Thurman, Floyd and Donald "Soug" Sexton.
