Norman L. "Lee" Emerick, 77, of Vandalia, passed away on Nov. 4, 2013, in Effingham.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Burial will follow in McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown. Mr. Emerick was born on Dec. 20, 1935, in Seminary Township, rural Vandalia, the son of Ira E. and Velva Fay Tharp Emerick. He married Nina LaVon Hayes on May 28, 1955, in St. Elmo.
He was a retired salesman for Linkon's Auto Supply in Vandalia for 40 years and a farmer. He was a member of the NRA, and was the valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society at Vandalia High School.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Kent Emerick and his wife Kathy of Vandalia, and Keith Emerick and his wife Becky of Vandalia; daughter, Kristi Hunt of Highland; brother, Frank Emerick and his wife Betty of Vandalia; sisters, Erma Lockart of Kansas City, Mo., and Nell Gelsinger of Pana; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Doug Emerick; and brothers, Bob, Charles and Glenn.
