Orville F. Niehaus (1931 - 2013)


Orville F. Niehaus, 81, of Centralia, formerly of Farina, passed away at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his home in Centralia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina. Burial will be in Friedens United Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: South Central Sport Benefit or donor's choice.
Mr. Niehaus was born on Nov. 15, 1931, in rural Farina, the son of Louis and Alma Wachholz Niehaus. He married Carolyn Virginia Soldner on July 9, 1950. He married Mary Helen Sligar Fortmeyer on Nov. 29, 1974, in Baton Rouge, La.
In childhood, he lived between Farina and St. Peter with six sisters and two brothers. He attended St. Peter Lutheran Grade School and Farina LaGrove High School. Orville was a loving husband who enjoyed his family. His passion in life was working in the grain elevator business and working with the area farmers. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Centralia with family and friends and retirement at Woodhaven in Sebring, Fla.
He is survived by his wife; sons: Gary Niehaus and his wife Becky of Bloomington, and Mike Niehaus and his wife Pat of Effingham, stepdaughters: Carla and her husband Randy Van Ness of Inverness, Fla., and Karen Fortmeyer of Stuart, Fla.; grandchildren, Eric Queen and his wife Brooke Queen of Palm Bay, Fla., Kevin Niehaus and his wife Katy of Little Rock, Ark., Scott Niehaus and his wife Amanda of Troy, Amy and her husband Brian Lipe of Salem, Stacey and her husband Vone Boualavong of Chatham, and Ryan Niehaus of Boulder, Colo.; stepgrandchildren: Rachael and her husband Ken Hall, Helen Van Ness and David Van Ness, all of Florida; great-granddaughters, Samantha, Sarah, Mikayla, Abbey and Emma; brother, Clarence Niehaus and his wife Charlotte Niehaus of Carbondale; and sisters, Velva and her husband Elden Fisher, and Melinda Perry, both of Vandalia; Iva Burgess of Salem; Fern and her husband Glen Richmann of Green Castle, Ind.; and Jane and her husband Jim Ballough of Lebanon, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a brother, Leon Niehaus; and a sister, Wilma Ambuehl.
