Obituary

Pauline Stokes, 89, of Brownstown, died on Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, 2012, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Overcup Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial was in Sidener Cemetery in rural St. Elmo. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Stokes was born on Nov. 10, 1922, in rural St. Elmo, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Rhodes Owen. She married Earl D. Stokes on May 20, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo.; he died on Aug. 16, 2006.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Stokes of Brownstown, Larry Stokes and his wife Marget of Mesquite, Texas, Joe Stokes and his wife Cindy of Coon Rapids, Minn., Linda and her husband Max Mattes of Tower Hill, David Stokes and his wife Karen of Brownstown, and Aleta and her husband Brad of Pekin.
