Rex M. Carroll, 79, of Ramsey, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Ramsey Christian Church in Ramsey, with the Rev. Terry Sapp officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Ramsey Cemetery in Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the church, with Masonic rites at 7 p.m.; visitation will also be held one hour before services on Saturday at the church. Mr. Carroll was born on Oct. 12, 1936, in Nokomis, the son of John Carmen and Iola Fern (Craig) Carroll. He married Janet Fern Hicks on Aug. 23, 1958, in Hillsboro.
He retired after 31 years with Norfolk & Western/Southern & Nickel Plate Railroad, and was a retired officer from Vandalia Correctional Center. He was a member of Ramsey Christian Church and former member of First United Methodist Church of Ramsey. He was a member of Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447 and a 50-year member of Clover Leaf Masonic Lodge of Herrick. He was a U.S. Army Airborne veteran, serving in Germany.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Len Carroll and his wife Candy of Macon, Tony Carroll of Ridgely, Tenn., and Charlie Carroll and his wife Melissa of Ramsey; daughter, Julie A. Carroll of Vandalia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Carroll of Nokomis, Ed Carroll of Brandenton, Fla., and Lynn Carroll of Oconee; and sister, LaWanda Anderson of Nokomis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil, Jim and Russ Carroll; and sisters, Ruth Hadley Rambo, Imogene Foster, Mary Carroll and Sandy Gaskin.
