Richard C. "Dick" Courson, 75, of St. Peter, was called home to Jesus at 7:08 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with the Revs. William Emrick and Douglas Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to services on Tuesday, both at the church. Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Courson was born on July 15, 1939, in Meacham Township, the son of Arthur and Minnie Outhouse Courson. He married Doris Ann Rothe on Feb. 26, 1961, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter.
He was a member of the United States Trotting Association and St. Peter Lutheran Church, and has served on the Lutheran Care Center Board and on various boards in his church. He was a loving and gracious husband and father, and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many school and sports activities. He also enjoyed socializing at the coffee shop with his many friends, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball and Illini fan, and was also active in standard-bred horse racing.
He is survived by his wife; son, Gregory Dean Courson and his wife Sarah of Farina; daughters, Christine Carol and her husband Burl Whitney of Monticello, Karen Ann and her husband Alan Whitt of Altamont, and Stacey Jo and her husband Doug Alberson of Salem; brother, Roger Courson of Edgewood; sister, Phyllis and her husband Delmar Maske of Farina; grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsey and Cole Courson, Ashley and Alyssa Whitney, Jennifer, Travis and Kaleb Whitt, and Tyler, Luke and Cade Alberson; stepgrandchildren, Jenna and Maggie Nevlin; and many nephews and nieces.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harley Courson.
