Richard P. "Dickie" Shanks, 59, of Vandalia, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Curtis Sweeney officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church, with Masonic rites at 10:30 a.m. Memorials: Fayette County Cancer Fund or . Mr. Shanks was born on July 11, 1957, in Kirksville, Mo. He was the son of Doris (McNear) and Mike Boggs of Brownstown.
He was formerly employed at South Central FS and at Fayette County Hospital-Maintenance Department. Dickie was a member of Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, Temperance Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. of Vandalia, Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois in Belleville, Old National Trail Shrine Club in Vandalia, Tin Lizzie Patrol in Vandalia and Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447.
He is survived by his parents; daughter, LaTisha and her husband Jason Paslay of Vandalia; son, David Shanks and his wife Amber of Humboldt; brother, J. Kim Shanks of Vandalia; stepsister, Gail Boggs of Vandalia; grandchildren, Jalea, Jarrett, Audrey and Evan; and stepmother, Joyce Shanks of Browning, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father, John George Shanks.
