Robert E. "Bobby" Moore, 84, of Vandalia, died at 8:04 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Daniel McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Moore was born on April 6, 1929, in Vandalia, the son of Joseph and Emma York Moore. He married Lily Ramos on Sept. 4, 1984, in New Orleans, La.
He was a pinsetter for the Vandalia bowling alley as a youth. He then worked as an accountant for the Wilson-Hamilton Marathon bulk station before becoming a correctional officer at the Joliet prison. He later transferred to and retired from Vandalia Correctional Center after 25 years.
He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia, a charter member of the Vandalia Eagles Club, and he was a school crossing guard for 12 years. He served at and retired from the Fayette County Senior Citizens Board, and was involved with the Evergreen Outreach program. He was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and he loved roller skating, fishing for catfish and eagle-watching.
He is survived by his wife; son, Wayne Moore of Vandalia; daughters, Diane White of Vandalia, and Reita and her husband James Benson of Garland, Texas, and Wilma Howe and special friend Tyler Tegler of Vernon, Conn.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, Charles and Gerald Moore; and four grandchildren.
