Ronald Lee Torbeck, 70, of Bluff City, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at his home.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in St. Elmo. Burial with military rites will be in Griffith Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Memorials: Vandalia radio station 103.1 FM WEMV, Brownstown VFW Post 9770 or donor's choice. Mr. Torbeck was born on April 4, 1948, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Laurence and Anita (Aukamp) Torbeck.
He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a highly regarded employee of VanSeal/Crane Packing for nearly four decades. Ron was an undisputed record-holder for squeezing the most years of service out of any one pickup truck. A true chip off the old block.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert VanUytven and Jason VanUytven, both of Ramsey; brother, Ivan Torbeck and wife Prima of Brownstown; sister, Judy Baker and husband Terry of Mattoon; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gayle and Chase VanUytven; a daughter, Dorothy VanUytven; and three brothers, who died in infancy.
